Newsletter No. 22- (05/05/02)

Well, what can I say? The turnout for last nights event was fantastic. Everybody seemed to enter into the spirit of the occasion. People mingled and chatted with friends, old and new. The guests came from far and wide. I won't begin to mention any names but people came from all over the globe, to celebrate the old school and meet old friends. The teachers who attended also did us proud. There were onr or two staff members who had to cry off for unforseen circumstances and sent their apologies for not being able to make it on the night. Thanks again to those for at least making the effort. A special Thank You goes to Mr Caswell, who did not feel able to attend but sent a donation for the fund which helped with the raffle prizes.

A great deal of thanks must also go to Mr Gillingham for his advice in starting the ball rolling. Last July when I started this It seemed a very daunting task. I wanted to make it a 30 year reunion, but it soon became obvious that I had underestimated the amount of work and coordination involved in getting almost 100 people together under one roof on the same night. We had to make it a 31 year reunion and hold it a little later than planned. There were millions of photo's taken on the night and if any of them turn out, you will see them on the web-site in the following few weeks. I was assured by everyone on the night that they all enjoyed it and most people wanted to do it again. I think it will take me a while to recover from this one, but it would be a shame to let all the hard work that was done by everyone involved if we left it for another 30 years before the next one! Perhaps an annual, more informal get together is the right way forward.

Apologies for absence were sent from Frank Isherwood, attending his brother Shaun's wedding in the Lake District. John Butterworth, likewise attending the wedding of his son in London. Many others were unable to make the event due to other circumstances. I am sure everyone there would agree, they missed a tremendous evening.

Would everybody who has any photographs they would like to share, please either send them to me or e-mail them and I will get them on the net as soon as possible. A word of warning however. Please take care with any photographs purchased from the official photographer, Paul James as these will be copyrighted and permission must be sought prior to publication.
Well that will have to be it for now 'cos I'm tired again! Bye for now,
Dave
