I married my childhood sweetheart (she made me say that!), Beryl Hodgkinson, and have been married for 34 years this year. We have two daughters (Kathryn and Joanna). Kathryn briefly attended Montgomery before we moved to Oxford in 1994. I am now retired after a lifetime in local government. After leaving Montgomery in 1969, I worked at Lewis's, the Civil Service and the Evening Gazette, before joining Fylde Borough Council in 1979. From there, I went on to take a degree in business studies before qualifying as a chartered secretary. I worked for Blackpool Borough Council and had a further spell at Fylde Borough Council before moving to Oxford in 1994. I worked at South Oxfordshire District Council until 2006 when I took early retirement from my job as head of corporate development. I now have a part-time job working 3 days a week as clerk to the governing body at the FE College in Oxford (so I can spend some time on the golf course!). Although I was an active sportsman at Montgomery, my hobby now is much less strenuous - I play golf (9 handicap) and am secretary of The Oxfordshire Golf Captains (I was captain of my local golf club in 1999 / 2000).
