I started at Monty in September 1958 as one of the first intake. At first
there was just a 1st.,2nd. and 3rd. year, I was in the 3rd. year. It was not
until September 1959 that there was a 4th. year. I left school in December
1959 having become 15 in November. I remember Mr. Cookson, science
Master I believe, Miss Holmes was
Biology, Miss Millman (not Millet) was Art, Mr. Kerfoot was Maths and
possibly Geography, Bryn Jones was Games as was Miss Harrison ( a real
pin-up!) and the other Mr. Jones whose first name escapes me (Dai I think)
which surprises me as he was my favourite teacher ( English). We didn't do
foreign language although I had done French at Claremont and really enjoyed
it. Lessons were interupted quite a lot at
first because of the great number of staff meetings. Poor old Mr. Halliday
didn't really recover from his illness, he came back to school but it wasn't
long before he died. His widow eventually married Ted Greenwood, a brilliant
teacher from Claremont.
